Hedhi Salama Project

Promoting Menstrual Health, Dignity & School Attendance

The Hedhi Salama Project, led by Okoa New Generation, is a project that promotes menstrual health education, dignity, and school attendance among adolescent girls. Recognizing that menstruation is a natural part of life, the project works to eliminate the stigma, silence, and misinformation that often surround it—especially in underserved communities.

Through interactive school-based sessions and peer-led education, girls are equipped with accurate knowledge about menstrual hygiene, body changes, and emotional wellbeing. The project also distributes reusable sanitary pads and hygiene kits to ensure that girls can manage their periods safely and confidently, without missing school or feeling ashamed.

Hedhi Salama fosters open conversations among students, teachers, and caregivers to normalize menstruation and promote empathy. The project integrates menstrual health into broader discussions on self-esteem, gender equality, and personal hygiene, helping girls build resilience and pride in their bodies.
